Privacy Policy for OpenIPTV

Effective date: May 13, 2026

OpenIPTV is an IPTV player and media management app. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles, why it is needed, where it is stored, and when it may leave your device.

Summary

OpenIPTV does not run its own user account system, advertising network, analytics service, or tracking service. The app is designed to keep your profile data on your own device unless you intentionally connect to an IPTV provider, download media, cast to another device, or export/sync a profile.

OpenIPTV does not provide TV channels, movies, series, or IPTV subscriptions. Any playlist, Xtream account, stream URL, or media source you add is provided by you or by a third-party provider chosen by you.

Data You Provide

Depending on how you use the app, OpenIPTV may store or process the following information on your device:

  • IPTV playlist URLs, M3U source URLs, Xtream server URLs, usernames, and passwords.
  • Channel, movie, series, and EPG metadata loaded from your sources.
  • Favorites, watchlist entries, playback progress, playback history, and app preferences.
  • Download information and locally saved media files when you use download features.
  • Recording schedules and recording-related metadata when you use recording features.
  • Profile import/export settings, including which profile data you choose to transfer.
  • Device name and local network information used for casting and device discovery.

How the App Uses Data

OpenIPTV uses the data above only to provide app features, including:

  • Loading and playing IPTV streams from sources you configure.
  • Showing channel lists, VOD lists, series, EPG information, favorites, watchlists, and playback progress.
  • Downloading or recording content when you request it.
  • Casting or controlling playback on devices on your local network.
  • Importing, exporting, or syncing profiles between your own devices when you explicitly enable those features.
  • Restoring app settings and profile state after restarting the app.

Local Storage

Most OpenIPTV data is stored locally on your device using platform storage such as app preferences, app-specific files, and media/download storage. This may include playlist data, provider credentials, favorites, watchlists, playback progress, recording schedules, downloads, and profile settings.

Anyone with access to your device, device backups, rooted system storage, or exported profile files may be able to access app data. Protect your device and avoid sharing exported profiles unless you trust the recipient.

Network Connections

OpenIPTV uses network access for features that require it, such as:

  • Connecting to IPTV providers or playlist URLs you configure.
  • Loading streams, EPG data, VOD metadata, and series metadata from those sources.
  • Casting playback commands or status information on your local network.
  • Importing, exporting, or syncing profiles between devices on your local network when enabled.

The providers, servers, playlist URLs, and devices you connect to are controlled by you or by third parties. Their own privacy practices are not controlled by OpenIPTV.

Profile Transfer and Sync

OpenIPTV can import, export, or sync profile data between devices. Profile data may include sources, credentials, favorites, watchlist entries, and playback history, depending on the options you select.

Protected profile transfers use password-based authentication and encrypted backup data. You decide when to start export/import and which profile data should be included. Do not share profile exports or transfer passwords with people you do not trust.

Casting and Local Device Features

When casting or remote playback features are used, OpenIPTV may send stream information, playback status, device name, and playback control commands to devices on your local network. These features are used only to enable playback and control between your devices.

Downloads and Recordings

If you download or record media, files and related metadata may be stored on your device. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to download, record, store, or play any content from your configured sources.

Android Permissions

OpenIPTV may request or use Android permissions needed for app functionality, including:

  • Internet and network state access, to load streams and communicate with configured services or local devices.
  • Foreground service permissions, to keep casting, syncing, download, or recording operations running when required.
  • Notifications, to show playback, casting, download, or recording status.
  • Wake lock and exact alarm permissions, to support scheduled recording and reliable playback-related tasks.
  • Boot completed permission, to restore or restart certain background-capable app services after device restart when needed.
  • Full-screen intent support, where the platform allows it, for time-sensitive playback or recording-related user flows.

The exact permission behavior may depend on your Android version, device type, and system settings.

Third Parties

OpenIPTV does not include its own advertising or analytics service. However, the app may communicate with third parties you choose, such as IPTV providers, playlist hosts, EPG providers, cloud/file providers selected through the system file picker or sharing features, app stores, operating system services, and devices on your local network.

Those third parties may process data according to their own privacy policies. OpenIPTV is not responsible for third-party services, streams, playlists, metadata, or provider systems.

Children

OpenIPTV is not directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Content availability depends on the sources configured by the user. Parents or guardians should supervise source configuration and playback where appropriate.

Data Sharing

OpenIPTV does not sell your personal data. The app does not share your data with advertising networks or analytics providers.

Data may leave your device only when you intentionally use a feature that requires it, such as connecting to an IPTV provider, streaming media, casting, profile transfer, importing/exporting data, sharing files, or using operating-system services.

Data Retention and Deletion

OpenIPTV keeps local app data until you delete it, remove profiles or sources, clear app data, uninstall the app, delete downloaded/recorded files, or use app features that remove stored entries.

You can remove locally stored data by using in-app delete options where available, deleting downloads or recordings, clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the app.

Security

OpenIPTV uses reasonable technical measures for app features, including protected profile transfer for sensitive profile exports. No app or network transfer can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. Avoid using untrusted playlists, unknown providers, public networks, or profile exports from sources you do not trust.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when OpenIPTV changes its features, data handling, or platform requirements. The updated version should be published with the app or project documentation.
